Our focus is mediation. At C.E.L. & Associates, all we do is mediate. Though we have an attorney, and someone with a legal/mental health background, 100% of what we do is mediate a divorce, mediate post-decree issues and never-married and same-sex parents who are looking to separate on civil terms.

While there are mediators who don’t have backgrounds conducive to mediating divorces or those whose practice is only litigation or therapy and part meditation, literally all we do revolves around mediation.

The price factor. At C.E.L. & Associates, we keep the costs down by not charging our clients for every contact they have with us. Short phone calls, emails, and texts are free of charge. Presuming a couple is amicable, a full mediation can range anywhere from $1,500 - $2,500 from start to finish. Being that we are hourly, the cost all depends on the clients’ ability to reach reasonable agreement efficiently. However, if you were to go down the litigation route, the price to merely retain two attorneys to start the divorce process will cost you around $10,000, and from there, the costs go up.

With mediation, you can go from the start, all the way through the finalizing of the divorce, for half of the cost of merely retaining two attorneys to litigate the divorce.

Location and hours of operation. C.E.L. & Associates has eight offices scattered throughout the Chicagoland area and Southeast Wisconsin.

We start as early as 8 am and sometimes do not end until 9 pm, as we base our hours around what works for our clients. Some people need early morning hours, some people need to meet over their lunch hour or when their children are in school, and other can only meet after work. Having eight locations, and the ability to meet when it is convenient for our clients, helps reduce some of the stress associated with the divorce.

We don’t need you to retain an attorney. Unlike other mediators, we do not require our clients to retain attorneys to work with us. We encourage our clients to consult with attorneys when they feel the need to, but we do not force them to have them to mediate. Mediation is 100% based on how our clients want to handle and navigate their divorce. Mandating that they retain attorneys to work with us, in my professional opinion, goes against this philosophy. Also, many of our clients can’t afford to each retain an attorney during the mediation process, and incur additional costs, costs that are unnecessary to a successful mediation.

We offer a holistic approach. Overall, I believe that C.E.L. & Associates offers an overall holistic and client driven negotiation process that is best for all involved, especially the children. Do I believe that we are right for everyone? No, I don’t! However, I do believe we have a particular style that works well for people wanting to divorce peacefully, remain amicable and do what is best for their children.
